Forgot to set my save file correctly, so ran out of drive space. So, had to re-record after Audacity crashed. That’s why tonights show is both late and a lot shorter than intended.

My throat is killing me.

It’s not in the show, but I feel the need to mention this story:
A federal judge on Thursday threw out a 1998 law that makes it a crime for commercial Web site operators to let children access “harmful” material.
“Perhaps we do the minors of this country harm if First Amendment protections, which they will with age inherit fully, are chipped away in the name of their protection,”

Running the show solo tonight with a very sore throat, so hopefully I’m understandable. Any questions or comments, let the news team know at news@openmicnews.org

OMN #7 with Cryptomancer

My very first show!!!!

…a bit late but there were some technical issues (laptop died) so I lost my notes and the news links (crypto is such a n00b). The background sounds like I’m recording next to a river and I wasn’t able to add the music tracks I had prepared but at least we didn’t miss a show. Any comments or if anyone finds the links for the news stories I did please send them to me and I’ll post them up. Next show I do will be better, I promise.

Macavity’s the mystery cat, he’s called the Hidden Paw
For he’s the master criminal who can defy the law . . . .

. . . not to mention I’ve also got my first episode of Open Mic News recorded. (And about bloody time too!)

It’s a bit short - only about 45 minutes - but at least it’s done, and in this edition we’re covering the following stories:

(USA/World?) Law enforcement uses cell phones as mobile ‘bugs’

(USA) FBI screws up with PATRIOT-granted powers

(UK/World) From junk mail to junk world: how mass-marketing tools can be used politically

(USA) Forget DWI, let’s focus on DWT (driving while texting)!

EDIT: Sample-rate/playback-speed issue resolved. Please re-download if you have the earlier version. - Admin

Hey, sorry it’s late. Doing tonight’s show’s ripped my throat up quite a bit.

The prologue of tonights episode will be posted seperately.

No backing music, by popular demand. Co-host tonight was my friend Patrick, called in at the last minute. Audio quality is low for Pat as only one headset mic was available tonight.

And again, thanks for Zlias for some great newslinks! Submit your own to: news@openmicnews.org

It’s still thursday SOMEWHERE.

We had a very last minute cancelation from Macavity as his sore throat just wouldn’t let him run his show.
No background music due to time. Also well under the intended hour. Does it work any better/worse? Evolution comes through harsh conditions.

Show #3 - More fun with PowerGramo

Filed under: podcast — Sci @ 10:40 pm

icon for podpress  OMN 003 [63:26m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (92)

Good evening ladies and gents! Sorry for the late uploading of this mondays show. All in all, this episode required editing out of a full 20 minutes of silence, umms and errs. The flow really wasn’t with us this sunday.
This time around, my co-host has been the wonderfull Wardy, joining me to comment on the news and let us know about next weekends charity event going on at Tiger Tails Radio, the TigerTails Charity Gunging.

The problem with the Skype recorder plugin PowerGramo has now been partially solved.
I managed to export one wav file using the latest version, before it jammed into only exporting in OGG format. Another support email has gone off.

I would also like to say a big hello to any new visitors and listeners we might have, thanks to the plug from Sean Kennedy himself, of NewsReal. If you don’t know why this is an especially awsome thing for OMN, please go look at the inspiration behind this in the “About” section.

My apologies for the reduced recording quality in the first half of the show, due to problems with the plugin.

The music you can hear in the background is from my “Born to be wild” Classic rock album.

And now the news..

Show #2 - Backup show

Filed under: podcast — Sci @ 7:15 pm

icon for podpress  OMN 002 [61:39m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (86)

Well hello again everyone. I’m sorry if you’re looking in for Macavitys report today. He’s snowed in, and can’t get to a location where he can upload his show. So instead we have myself and co-host Silverfang performing OMN’s first emergency backup show. Sorry it’s a bit late in the day.

Hopefully Mac’s show will be available next week.

This is also the first show I’ve done with the Skype recorder plugin, PowerGramo. For recording, it worked very nicely, but there is a glitch in the current version that doesn’t allow it to export as wav or OGG. This should be fixed in the next release, but for the momment the only way get audio out of it is to let it run for the length of the recording, and use Audacity to rip it from the Stereo Mixer.
